Hillary Clinton (#1 contender for the Dem nomination)
August 21, 2007 -- WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton told a veterans group yesterday that President Bush's troop surge is working -- but that it is still time to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq.
"It's working. We're just years too late in our tactics," she said, referring to the beefed-up U.S. troop presence battling insurgents in Iraq, including war-torn Anbar province. IRAQ SURGE WORKING, BUT TOO LATE: HILLARY CLINTON | By GEOFF EARLE | National News | US News | Current National News
Carl Levin (#1 man on the Defense committee)
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin says he saw “credible and positive results from the surge of troops in Iraq ordered by President George W. Bush but remains skeptical about whether military successes will lead to political resolutions in that war-torn country.

And you know what all 3 of these have in common? They all said the surge would not work.
our troops are doing a great job our brave service men.
however the task they have been assigned, bringing democracy and the american way to a stone age people is a bit tough. please bring them home.
also it bothers me that nobody there invited us to do so.
the guy that blew up nyc is still loose alive and well in pakistan
but that is not the fault of our brave troops, that is the fault of our leaders.

Leave ASAP? Who is talking about leaving ASAP? The purpose of the "surge" was not to reduce violence permanently. It was to provide "breathing space" for the Iraqi politicans to get their government and army in place, remember. So how is that going along?
Plus we now have a staging ground to attack Iran as long as we stay. Bush has no plans to bring the troops back, until we literally run out of troops to send.

But President Bush is running out of time. If a Democrat takes the White House, aren't they promising to end the war asap?
How many of them are in tact? How many have lost family members to our dirty little war?
If you had actually taken time to read the article, you wouldn't have posted this question.
There are MANY who dislike these types of good, positive reports coming out of Baghdad. It reduces the amount of rubbish that can be spewed out against this administration.
You see it as a bad thing to keep Iran worried? Why?
Who said I thought Iran is worried. You just know Russia and China are whispering in their ear, don't worry, we've got your back. They have seen our capabilities and limitations up close now for several years...they know we are stretched to our limits. Heck, our bungled invasion of Iraq has been the best thing that ever happened to those guys.
I was just explaining the twisted rationale to sooner nation who was expressing her fervent hope the troops could come home ASAP.
