I'm pro life, but to restrict abortion in cases where the life of the mother depends on it is crazy and cruel. The essence of this bill is that if you show up at an ER with any kind of distress related to pregnancy or labor that medically requires an abortion, the hospital has no obligation to treat you if you're uninsured. Under current law it's covered. If you're hemorrhaging in a miscarriage, you're going to lose the baby anyway, but you could die if they don't stop the bleeding. No decent human being would deny services under those circumstances, and most people (especially in this economy) don't have the money to pay cash for what could be a really costly hospital stay if it's not covered by insurance.

What's wrong with some of you? When you go out on extreme positions like this, you lose the people who might otherwise support this cause. It's pretty hard to make the case that you want to protect unborn babies when you're willing to throw away the life of the mother, especially when there's little to no chance of the baby's survival. I'm ashamed of my party for even introducing something like this.

The republican party I grew up in was never this mean.

I'd rather pay for an abortion than pay for a hysterectomy for a botched, backalley procedure. I'd certainly rather pay for one than for viagra or other nonsense funded by many private health care plans.

i agree and on that same note, i'd rather my tax dollars pay for a one-time $300 abortion than 18 years of gov't subsidized child care/youth care and welfare.

I would rather sue the guy who impregnated her to pay for it instead.

Second, because when health care insurance subsidizes VIAGRA, it should certainly birth control and abortion, if only on the issue of fairness.

But the economic issue is the REAL reason; as someone who pays INSANE income taxes, I certainly would rather pay a few dollars to stop a pregnancy, rather than the millions that will be required to subsidize food and clothing and housing and education, not to mention social services, health care, mental health care, and the prison systems that will eventually have to deal with the majority of those produced under the worst possible circumstances.
Amen. When I see the second generation of the welfare class in northern New England that has learned to game the system by popping out babies and holding out their hands for WIC / SNAP / ReachUp and hell even free tuition at the local community college while neglecting the kids (aka future drug addicts) they bring into this world I think conservatives need to seriously rethink some of their talking points on this topic.

Default consistent strategy...disgard details of economic plan in favor of an emotional appeal

Please make note of the consistent style of delivery from all Dems that currently constitutes their focused strategy. Absolutely no discussion of details or defense of their economic plan. they feel no need to explain and convince people that their plan will work. It is an attitude that conveys their belief that the American people are incapable of understanding the details and coming to a decison that agrees with the administration.

Obama and Biden spoke yesterday using the exact same reference to the perceived and theoretical conclusion of the the absence of the legislation they wish to pass.

They have moved from honest discussion to tugging on emotional heart strings. This strategy is a last resort when argument runs out and you are confident your audience is less than perceptive and lacks critical thinking.

This strategy is equivalent to someone alone at an accident scene screaming that the victims family will no longer be able to go to Thanksgiving dinner with the bleeding driver and his daughter will not have his arm to walk down the aisle at ther wedding. All this rhetoric in lieu of first aid. Scream louder, 'Won't someone help this man!!!??? while you let him bleed to death.

What we have is an hysterical bystander in Obama, Pelosi and Biden who have decided to end the discussion. Odd when you think Obama would rather talk to terrorist leaders but not the Republicans and not the American people.

Consistent with this strategy is Obama never telling the American people where he is ultimately going. The American people compliment of the media, are fed need to know information in segments and never being told what the final intent is except in terms of interpretive rhetoric.

God, I hope the American people Obama relies upon for his re-election see the charalatan for what he is.
