"Gallup found that just 6 percent of Chinese said there were times in the past 12 months when they lacked enough money for food for themselves or their family, compared to 19 percent of Americans. Just three years ago, those results were almost reversed: 16 percent of Chinese couldn't put food on the table at times, compared to 9 percent of Americans."
Now Chinese mothers say, "Eat your food, there are children starving in America!"

In spite of what some think there are countries that are growing a middle class who can afford to buy "stuff". America is not the only one anymore. But our egos are too big so we stick our heads in the sand and refuse to acknowledge it.
Let's see -- factory jobs flow out of America and into China. QOL for Americans goes down and goes up in China. Coincidence?
It's not just China WestCobb. India, Brazil, Vietnam, Philippines..all those countries now targeted for offshoring to make the cheap goods that Americans line up to buy. And it's more than factory jobs. You're talking white collar, college educated jobs.
The factory jobs left decades ago. It's the white collar that started leaving in the mid to late 90's with the call centers.
Now you have huge R&D laboratories in places like China and India built by US Corporations employing hundreds if not thousands white collar workers.

I agree, Happy. The problem is broader than just factory jobs being offshored -- white collar jobs are being offshored too. Our standard of living is going down -- their standard of living is going up. It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to figure out what's going on here.

Like it or not there are just not enough resources in the world to support the American consumer lifestyle in every country. China alone would deplete all the resources if they attained what we once had and their population numbers.
U.S. food costs are increasing as we ship more and more food to other countries, but our politicians tell us that isn't so. Just look at my grocery bill and it sure doesn't look the same to me.
Buy American, hire American.
