Highways built and maintained by taxpayer dollars will be given to favored insiders to collect tolls. Taxes won't decrease, but travelling expenses go up.
End result: political cronies get rich at taxpayer expense and the public gets absolutely no benefit.
Typical current bass ackwards "logic"... Maybe we've become too stupid to remain a democracy.
If you think getting a government to maintain roads is difficult just wait until you try and get a bunch of private sector cheapskates to spend money on anything but their own profit. We need to go in the opposite direction and place all natural monopolies in the public sector where the services can be provided at cost instead of cost plus profit. Just look at teh difference in the price of electricity charged by privately owned utilites compared with the TVA.
It would be beneficial when considering this to know how many road projects are contracted out to private companies anyway.
And, Greg W, how many public projects come in on budget?
I counter with how many private projects are on time and budget? Damn few.
I believe all the natural monopolies should be government owned and operated to remove the cost to consumers of private sector excessive managerial wages and risk free profits to stockholders.
Do you think if the infrasture was privatized, the conditions of our roads would be better?
Do we still have to pay gas taxes if roads are privatized? Will there still be a highway bill to throw money away? If so then we would be getting hit by both sides to drive down the road.
