The idea is not at fault... Its how it is applied that is questionable...
The Military is a great example. We have the best trained best equiped military in the world. How is it used?? We waste the lives of our soldiers. We waste equipment and we waste resourses.
We have The DEA, ATF, US Marshals, Secrete Service, FBI, NSA, CIA, FDA, Border Patrol, oh and the enforcement arm of the IRS. And yet combined they can't catch a cold.

While the constitution talked about common defense, it never mentioned the amount we should spend on it and never in the wildest dreams did they envision spending 1.5 TRILLION dollars on "defense", more than all the other countries in the world put together.

We need to cut the largest welfare program on steroids in the country by half if not more.

I've seen tests like that before - there is NO WAY most of today's kids could pass it.

biggest mistake george washington ever made, informally creating the cabinet system, which was never originally intended. wish i could go back in and go ''george my man, you don't wanna do that.'' and he'd go ''why the hell not?'' and i'd reply ''because in the future we have so many departments the president probably forgets the name of half the heads''.

Sounds fine by me because we would pay a hell of a lot less in taxes.

But you liberals would be stuck with a MASSIVE TAX INCREASE to fund medicare and social security for your ranks.

And we should just eliminate the DoD so there can finally be peace all over the world.

OP - We did not do fine before these existed. We did very poorly except for the extravagances of the hyper wealthy.

By that logic if we just add a few dozen more bloated departments with hundreds of thousands of federal "workers" with permajobs and huge benefits then America would be a utopia.

More government = happier populace. Right?
