Trustees of the California Medical Assn., which represents more than 35,000 physicians statewide, adopted the position at their annual meeting in Anaheim late Friday. It is the first major medical association in the nation to urge legalization of the drug, according to a group spokeswoman, who said the larger membership was notified Saturday.
California Medical Assn. calls for legalization of marijuana - latimes.com

Sad that the federal government still treats marijuana users as if they're members of a Mexican drug cartel.

Do you realize how contradicting this statement is?

Mexican drug cartels bring in the Marijuana from Mexico which is then sold on the streets by dealers which is then consumed by the end user.

So theoretically yes, they are funding violent drug cartels.

Maybe if we allowed it to be grown here in the US, taxed, & regulated like alcohol things would be different.

That's the point of the topic. Marijuana is the cash crop for the cartels, but the corrupt DEA would not legalize it, because they work with certain cartels to ship the drugs in (Fast and Furious goes way deeper than what the MSM is reporting)

Mexicans are trafficking coke for the Colombians and their own meth. They're certainly not risking their time for Mexican ditch weed. The vast majority of marijuana sold in the US is grown domestically with some brought in from western Canada.

And don't forget the cartels' original product - heroin - which they've always made a ton of money from. It's far more profitable than marijuana as it's easier to smuggle in,it's easier to control the market, and the profits are higher.

Actually, Mexican cannabis provides 60% of the funding for the Mexican drug cartels. :/

They CMA can advocate for the legalization of marijuana all they want but any doc who prescribes marijuana is in violation of their DEA registration and is engaging in criminal behavior.

I would like to try a little experiment in America; I would take a sheet of paper, draw a line down the middle, list the benefits, safety, and side effects of marijuana on one side, and then list the benefits, safety, and side effects of the top pills prescribed in America on the other. I would then ask people to pick which drugs they would choose based on the above criteria, while covering the top of the paper so they couldn't see what they were picking.

I wonder what would happen?

(this could be such fun in church)
