Harry J. Anslinger is responsible for both the 1937 Marihuana Tax Act, effectively outlawing cannabis in the U.S., and the 1961 Single Convention Treaty on Narcotic Drugs, which outlawed weed worldwide and is still in effect.

"Anslinger had pushed for a treaty against cannabis in order to shore up the act's dubious constitutionality under U.S. law," said Dale Gieringer, director of California NORML. (The act was later declared unconstitutional for other reasons, only to be supplanted by the Controlled Substances Act in 1970, which kicked off Nixon's War On Drugs.)

"Today, the international treaty stands as the principal cause of prohibition-related crime and violence worldwide with drug wars from Mexico to Afghanistan plus the criminalization of millions of users," Gieringer said.

Few smokers smoke 60 a day. Most below 6.

Pot is banned in 90% countries in the world for good reasons.
Why bother if it's only temporary. If it's nicotine that is craved there are much neater/cleaner ways to obtain it.

Why bother to eat delicious food? Just drink water, swallow protein and vitamin pills.

No, most smoke at least a pack a day. Nicotine is highly addictive.

You said that cannabis prohibition isn't an "American" thing. The link I provided you states otherwise.

Many things are banned in some countries, doesn't mean they are bad. More and more health benefits of pot are discovered all the time, that is why it is becoming legal in a lot of states.

You think a smoker who "needs a cigarette" is not stressed??

At least they have a way to reduce stress. Many others just go crazy or develop other symptoms.

Potheads are always stressed to find pot. They are also afraid of getting fired because almost all companies disallow it during work hours.

I don't believe I have ever met a "pothead" who was "stressed to find pot." I think you're imagining things to support the argument you want to believe.
