Yup........my grandfather was one of those Cubans who came pre-1959......
Interesting he was black correct? What was his socioeconomic background? I ask because I read somewhere that Black Cubans weren't nearly as economic disadvantaged before Castro as some on lLft especially the Black Left make out.
Many of the Black sugar cane workers cited as being "victims" of pre-revolutionary Cuba's more capaitalistic system were in fact not Cubans but Haitian and Jamaican migrants and by this time Black Cubans were entring the middle class. I recall watching one documentary where they interviewed a Black Cuban doctor about his experiences growing up in Pre-Revolutionary Cuba and it ran counter to everything I learned before that about the subject.
That's like asking someone in 1975 Phnom Penh why they're not moving to another part of Cambodia.
How is Joe Typical Mexican going to make his country a better place to live?
Mexico is the world's twelfth largest economy. One third of all Mexicans are obese. They have national health care and the world's richest man. Hardly a brutal communist dictatorship.
Joe Mexico's problems aren't that he lives in Mexico. Joe's problems are that he dropped out of high school and fathered kids he cannot afford to support at an early age. That's very stupid behavior that Americans aren't obligated to compensate for legally or morally. Joseph Typical American should not have to work harder because Joe Mexico made a bunch of dumb life choices and want to come here so we can help him fix them.
They certainly could have moved to another part of Asia as opposed to the USA. In fact many did just that going to Hong Kong and Thailand.
That's not exactly my point, Edward. The poster said the Mexicans who came here could just as easily have gone to another part of Mexico.....and gone through the exact-same narcoviolencia.

For me the fallacy of the refugee program is that if you are truly fleeing persecution wouldn't it make sense to head to the nearest safe haven as opposed to one clear across the world?
In the case of Cuba and Mexico that would be the USA. In the case of Somalia or Cambodia it is not the USA.
If Rubio's parents were exiles from Batista that would mean they're Communists.
