Gene Collier, who was hunting bear with his 12-year-old grandson saw movement in the brush and fired one shot from a .270-caliber rifle, striking Ochoa, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said. His pal was able to summon authorities and direct them to the scene. Although deputies administered first aid to Ochoa, who was alive when they arrived, he died at the scene.
Folks, the safety rules ALWAYS apply. Confirm the identity of your target and know your backstop is safe before shooting when you are hunting or anytime handling weapons launching projectiles.
I like the comment below in that article: Walking in the woods should not get you killed by a fool with a gun, i.e. most hunters. This should be treated as a homicide.
A member of the US Marine Corps Reserves was shot and killed in Oregon after authorities say a hunter mistook him for a bear. Christopher Ochoa, a 20-year-old from French Camp, Calif., and a friend were hiking through a field in Western Oregon on the way to Silver Creek Falls Park last night. Ochoa was wearing dark-colored clothing when an Oregon man hunting for bear with his 12-year-old grandson saw something move in the brush.

And it will be. One of the main rules for hunting (which you obviously don't know) is to know your target, know what's behind it and never, ever fire at a noise. Another good rule to follow for anyone in the woods during hunting season (which may vary due to which season such as archery or waterfowl, when you're usually on the water or in a blind) is to wear blaze orange. It's required in most states for many of the seasons, especially big game.
By the way, I'm a Hunting Safety Instructor for the State of MD.

My sons both burn wood to save on heating costs and they fear to cut wood during deer season just because of this kind of crap. They don't worry about turkeys or other foul since shotguns aren't so dangerous at any far range.
