Our media, and our government, want us to believe that we are half liberal and half conservative, or half Democrat and half Republican. They are creating this illusion because Big Government is liberal, and will not accept that most of the American people reject that path.
Have America liberals been watching the collapse of the Euro and the European Union? Liberal socialism might have succeeded there, if the population never aged into non-productivity, and if immigration were strictly controlled to make sure foreigners couldn't swamp the generous safety nets of nations that had productive populations. I wonder just how long Germany will support all of the slackard nations in the European Union?
Germany is much like the American taxpayer, who must sacrifice his own quality of life to pay for the sloth and irresponsibility of countless parasites. But these systems are doomed to fail. For one thing, why should Germany work so hard when they get none of the benefits of their own labor and productivity? And why should the American taxpayer work to support endless needy, and the grossly overgrown and corrupt Big Government that robs them blind?
Soon both systems will collapse, and economists say Europe will go first. When that happens, we won't long behind. Let's just hope that we don't make the same mistake with the new nation that rises from the ashes: the Founding Fathers had it right, and when we abandoned their ideals for the false promises of liberal Socialism we signed our own death warrant.

I don't think you can blame the EU collapse on "social liberalism". Trying to consolidate an entire continent with that much diversity is bound to go wrong. While no nation is perfect, the fact of the matter is, the best nations on the planet in terms of quality of living and reputation are run by very liberal ideology. Take Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, etc. as examples. Most countries run on conservative policies are oppressive and corrupt.
