Here's just some of what is being covered in NYC sex ed these days. How comfortable are you with this stuff being covered in the public school? I think its waaaaaay over the top. Google this "Go Ask Alice" site and see if you'd want your child being referred here for information about "sex education."

"* Kids ages 11 and 12 sort “risk cards” to rate the safety of various activities, including “intercourse using a condom and an oil-based lubricant,’’ mutual masturbation, French kissing, oral sex and anal sex."
"* Teens are referred to resources such as Columbia University’s Web site Go Ask Alice, which explores topics like “doggie-style” and other positions, “sadomasochistic sex play,” phone sex, oral sex with braces, fetishes, porn stars, vibrators and bestiality."

"Kids are being told to either abstain or use condoms -- that both are responsible, healthy choices,” said child and adolescent psychiatrist Miriam Grossman, author of “You’re Teaching My Child What?”
"The DOE “relies on latex,” she said."

I have read Dr. Grossman's book and recommend it highly to anyone with school age children. She is spot on with her facts!

This is what happens when the government takes control. It puts out mandates and takes away parental choice in the matter. Whether or not you believe in an abstinence only education or a more comprehensive sexual education I think we can all agree that it should be the parent's choice. I also fail to see any benefit in teaching kids about fetishes, porn stars or bestiality.

Absolutely. This is why we need vouchers.

I have my daughter in headstart right now if I EVER hear of this garbage being taught she will be yanked from school and will never step foot in a government indoctrination center again. I always wanted to homeschool her anyways and still might do so would love to send her to private school or something else other than the indoctrination centers. She is a bright kid the centers will just dumb her down.

I would go directly to the school/teacher and see what exactly they will be teaching and what the curriculium will be. Nothing in the OP is mandatory, I figured that out by reading this and other articles. And schools can choose any program they want so that's where I would start. I knew most of my kids teachers at least superficially from back to school nights, and also think there isn't going to be a whole lot of time for so much detail.

I might still be upset about what they plan to do but then I could exercise my parential right to opt out.

Exactly. Everyone remembers Senator Weiner or Bill Clinton, right? Guess what kind of people make these candy-ass government programs up?

Parents need to just grow up about sex and teach their own kids frankly about the subject. If you are all about abstinence that fine, just realize your kids (like all humans) are programed by Nature to want sex more than just about anything else in the world, so don't expect miracles. Teach them about sex anyway, not just to not do it. That has worked exactly 0 times in all human history.

The problem is parents don't want schools to teach them, but it seems like they're not doing it either. I really don't understand why they're so afraid of sex, like you said we're all humans and one way or another they'll find out about (internet, movies, songs and classmates).

You know in Sweden or Switzerland (forget which) they start teaching 6-7 year olds general things about it (anatomy). When they reach 12 they start talking about condoms and STDs and thanks to those programs they have less teen pregnancies than the U.S.

Just glad to say I feel lucky I don't have young kids in the school system these days.
If I did they'd be in private school and I'd get another job if I had to.

Conservatives have been complaining about sex-ed for what, 30 years?

Get a grip, guys. I really think you have no idea what your little "darlings" are looking up online, even if you think they aren't.
