I still can't believe Ross picked this buffoon to be his running mate a few moons ago.
I don't think he is a buffoon, definitely not good on the political stage though.
Imagine......Perot might have gotten in if it was not for his poor choice of a running mate.................and, oh yeah................he dropped out for a while after the YOU PEOPLE remark....that really hurt him.

And didn't he think space aliens were trying to disrupt his daughter's wedding or something? Or was that in 1996?
Stockdale became more of an academic over the years. I don't think he was ready for a political run at the time Perot picked him, and he didn't worry much about politics after the election, either.
He was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for about 7.5 years. Some of his writings about that experience are online. Before Vietnam, Stockdale had read the writings of the Greek Stoic philosopher Epictetus, and he noted that Stoic philosophy was a major part of his survival strategy while he was imprisoned.
This certainly shows how distorted our political process certainly is, but not in the way you intended it.
Stockdale was far more intelligent than his debate counterparts, yet was not a trained liar, therefore his sentiments and performance in the debate was not a well orchestrated performance. That "performance" is what we have come to expect from our politicians, not truth and effective leadership. When intelligent, honest men, who are not trained politicians, appear in debates, they appear out of their element. If they are honest and intelligent men, they certainly would be expected to be in an unfamiliar area in a political debate.
Perot and Stockdale were right. History has proven them correct. However, both were percieved as somewhat of a laughing stock during the debates.
Rather than listening to trained liars who coin some nifty catch phrases like "Hope and Change", perhaps we should listen to the content of the candidates, evaluate thier realistic plans, and measure thier character. If we do not, we will end up with another Obama and the nation will be doomed to four more years of economic misery.
Wake up. How do you think that the average intelligent, honest, well informed citizen would come across in the debates? How would many of our best presidents have appeared in these well rehearsed debates of today?
This is hilarious, but again, not in the way that you think. Here we have someone ridiculing Stockdale, who is far more intelligent and has more education than the poster. However, given that the poster is a liberal, he is certain that he is more intelligent than Stockdale. Now that is funny.
Stockdale and Perot were right. You should have been laughing at Clinton and Bush. Had this "laughing stock" been VP, we would not have had NAFTA, China most favored nation trade status, and the financial crisis. Now who "stumbled"?

Come on, I am not a liberal.............but, even I admit that Stockdale did not come across as very competent or lucid.
Sunk Ross Perot's presidential bid faster than a torpedo hitting a cargo ship.
