Otherwise, it would be like looking at any other picture and wouldnt' have any effect. But it does have an effect. That's why she doesn't want to see it.
And that's why there's so much resistance to laws requiring an ultrasound before having an abortion. Out of sight, out of mind is the name of the game. Not seeing the fetus would help her to ignore the consequences.
