To Mods - This post is political in nature, and should not be moved to the work/employment area.

It seems that nothing short of a radical solution would get America back to "normal" employment any time soon.

For example, one way would be to force, thru a carrot/stick approach, to get millions of boomers to retire early (if your a boomer, remember, we need RADICAL solutions).

Another, maybe even more radical, which would also be cool, is to create a mini terra nova here and now.
Make a deal with some country with LOTS of land, not too many people(maybe Australia or Russia), buy a decent amount of it (maybe 100k sqaure miles) and build a new modern city-state, taking all the knowledge we have making the best of everything possible.

What are your RADICAL ideas?

And yes, killing millions of Group X would work, it has been mentioned, so move on...

Uranium takeovers are offering investors the biggest potential payoffs, less than a year after the partial meltdown of Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant.
Hathor Exploration Ltd., the owner of a uranium deposit in northern Saskatchewan, yesterday traded 8.4 percent above a bid from Rio Tinto Group that topped an offer from Cameco Corp. That signals investors are now betting Hathor will extract the biggest price hike of any pending North American deal greater than $500 million, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Kalahari Minerals Plc, which resumed talks with China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group after a takeover was derailed by Japan’s disaster, would now hand shareholders a higher return than the pre-Fukushima agreement, even with a 5 percent lower offer.
Hathor has become the target of a bidding war, while talks to buy Kalahari, which owns a 43 percent stake in the developer of what will be the world’s third-largest uranium mine, have reignited as energy demand surges in developing nations. China, India and Russia are still constructing or planning to build at least 125 nuclear reactors combined in the wake of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that caused radiation leaks in Japan.

also China gets has said that Iraq and Libya oil production cannot meet their needs since Iran has been buying weapons when we pull out which creates a unstable region and they say that 6 months to a year about when they run out of the stockpiled reserves there will be massive spikes in oil prices...And they have invested billions in Canadas oil sands and the EU is also talking about lifting their ban on importing ol refined from oil sand.

the smartest thing for the US and Canada is to build the Keystone XL pipeline and 65-70 Gen 4 nuclear power plants in both countries and redo the North american power grid which would create jobs and both our countries could use new roads and bridges which would create a short term jobs boom and long term power and oil needs an security.

the US is a innovative millitary superpower and Canada is now becoming the stable energy superpower and we expand our markets in to South America to do what Russia and china have done with BRIC project which is help them get modrenized by helping them build modren power plants and roads modren university and trade schools and launch a telecom sat to provide high speed internet and cell access and gain influence and allies in the area.

colonize mars and send people that have no job to colonize it since it will need lots of workers for 100's of years and would mean the first permanent space colony where in theroy people would/could be born on another planet and out of a depression we just advanced mankind another step.

Plus add NATO and westren allies that are having the same problems and get 200 million volunteers and over 50 years send them to mars and call it ocuppy mars.
