That's the problem with outlawing certain classes of firearms as being "the worst", once they're banned then the next class becomes "the worst" and the push is on to get rid of them. Much like happened in Australia. Multi-capacity shotguns were banned. Guns like the Remington 870 or 1100 or the Browning BPS or Auto 5. All that was left were break action single and double barrels. There has been movement in some states, such as MD, to do the same thing.

As an aside I have a nice little Walther .25, pre WW II era.

banning saturday night specials or a cheap pistols only took firearms out of the hand of the poor and the ability to protect themselves.

First off, what is the proposed purpose of gun control laws?
How will such laws achieve their stated goals?
How restrictive will such laws be upon the people?

And they pretty much do. You'd be hard-pressed to find a responsible gun owner who thinks it's a good idea to allow a felon on parole for robbery to waltz into their local gun store and buy a new pistol, for example.

Today's federal gun laws are not perfect, but they are adequate enough. I would like to be able to buy a fully-automatic rifle at Cabella's...true, but I'm not bent out of shape because I can't. The NFA is not entirely unreasonable, but the 1986 cut-off is annoyingly arbitrary.

What I don't want are any more arbitrary gun laws passed which further limit what I can/can't have.

The purpose is to give well intended people... who are unwilling or unable to make the harder to get legislated tough choices about the actual problems... a nice warm fuzzy feeling that they're "doing something" and will "help the children"

another term is "picking the low hanging fruit"

Gun control is so stupid. The only people I see supporting it are liberals who want to have an excuse for the high rates of gun violence in Black and Hispanic communities. That's why you have Chicago, DC, etc banning handguns because they have out of control gun violence.

What really needs to happen is we ban guns based on race rather than the city you live in based on their kind of logic it seems to fit.

What is the point of any type of regulation? Being pro regulation doesn't mean you are against what you are regulating. I don't support prohibition, but I have no problem with the alcohol industry being regulated. I love my car, but I also want some regulation in automobiles and driving.

It would be easier if you could just go to Cabellas and get a cheap convenient full auto conversion for your favorite rifle

But the NFA isn't gonna go away any time soon...

Great! I'll go buy that howitzer now, in time for New Years Eve.

I'll try to yell "fore!" to the people downrange.
