Anti-Wall Street protesters' plans to camp in a New York park throughout the city's harsh winter were dealt a blow on Friday when the fire department confiscated six generators and about a dozen cans of fuel.
It's going to get colder and most likely more generators will show up.
Possibly the FD is trying to prevent generators appearing every 3 feet.

I am inclined to agree with you, save for the fact that tea partiers would often go to rallies with tons of weapons and no one complained about safety there. Clearly generators cannot be considered substantially more dangerous then firearms.
As a result I tend towards leaning to the side that they should be able to keep them.

You're willing to put property and lives at risk because of what you like to think? If the NY authorities were so cavalier, they could and should be sued and prosecuted in the event of a tragedy.
There is nothing legal about setting up camp on public property that does not have the facilities to support a safe and hygienic environment.

You're making a big assumption that everyone there working a generator knows what they are doing. Bad assumption.

People hooking up electrical connections that may or may not know what they're doing isn't safe. Storing fuel in a privately owned park where questionable electrical connections are being made isn't safe. How would licensed individuals carrying firearms be more dangerous?

Agreed. Carrying a fifth of 151 rum is like carrying a molotov cocktail.......... but there's no law against it, and there's none against having a generator either.
The ACLU needs to get involved in this. Whether you agree with them or not, this is a clear violation of rights.
