Liberals love tyranny, despotism, and subjugation, so their support of Islam, as well as condemnation of Christianity, is perfectly "natural". God forbid that a liberal would actually support human rights, rights of women, and tolerance for other views. One would think that those views would be "liberal" or "progressive", so it is no wonder that liberals condemn these positions.

Unfortunately, it is a cultural practice that extends from North Africa to Central and West Africa. There's nothing in the Koran that reinforces or suggest such brutality. As a matter of fact, female genital mutilation (FGM) became a cultural identity practice long before Islam was established.
Furthermore, there have been other "TRULY SICK," cultural practices against women throughout history, e.g., the chastity belt (Italy 1400s), foot binding (China 10th century - 1949), and Victorian FGM (Great Britain 1850s -1985).
Unfortunately, we live in an era where people, such as the OP, fail to take the time to find evidence to support their position. This has nothing to do with being either a liberal, or conservative, but about being responsible for presenting factual information.
I believe it is mainly 'liberal' groups that are actively involved on the African continent in trying to stamp out female circumcision. I have not heard of any 'conservative' groups doing such. Indeed, I rarely hear of any conservative group trying to do much to help the poor and downtrodden anywhere.

That's because most conservatives don't actually care about human rights. But they sure like to criticize liberals for **perceived** inconsistencies to make themselves feel better about not giving a damn.

Liberals defend traditional Islamic practices by pointing out that Muslims aren't the only mutilators of little girls.
The fact that if a little girl (anywhere in the world) has been attacked in such a manner there is a VERY HIGH PROBABILITY that the girl has Muslim parents is ignored by liberals.
