Once again, this isn't difficult to understand, especially if one knows what an apple is, and what an orange is.

According to the article: "In America, the top 1% earn more than $380,000 per year. We are, however, among the richest nations on Earth. How much do you need to earn to be among the top 1% of the world? $34,000."

The Occupy Wall Street movement started on Wall Street, in New York, and that's in the United States. The OWS protests in this country are protesting the income inequality that exists here and that has grown tremendously over the last three of decades.

People in other countries who have taken up the OWS movement in their countries are protesting the income inequality in their countries.

Comparing the top 1% of incomes in any one country to what the average is across the globe is amusing, but it's a case of comparing apples and oranges. A more valid comparison would be to compare the U.S. with another of the world's richest nations.

According to Wikipedia:

Quote:
As of 2006, the United States had one of the highest levels of income inequality, as measured through the Gini index, among high income countries, comparable to that of some middle income countries such as Russia or Turkey, being one of only a few developed countries where inequality has increased since 1980.
And according to a new report from the Congressional Budget Office:

Quote:
After-tax income for the highest-income households grew more than it did for any other group. CBO finds that, between 1979 and 2007, income grew by:
  • 275 percent for the top 1 percent of households,
  • 65 percent for the next 19 percent,
  • Just under 40 percent for the next 60 percent, and
  • 18 percent for the bottom 20 percent.

Just using some math - how is that even possible?

About 4 percent of the world lives in the U.S. Therefore, if we assumed ALL top 1% people lived in the U.S., that means that in order for $34,000 to be a top 1% income in the world, that would mean that 75% of all Americans earn less than $34,000 per year.

Methinks this isn't right, unless you start including children and other people that don't work but are otherwise taken care of.

I beg to differ. The name of the protests changed, but this is really the same thing that has been sweeping through Europe. It's backed by the same socialist, communist, unions and progressive movements as Europe, making it effectively the same protest. It's only different in name and geography, not ideology.

It's about the same as discounting people who were forced into retirement, are underemployed or have given up and calling unemployment 9.1%. We all know that if you plow through the politiconomics, and crunch real numbers, it's more like 15-18%. What about the true debt? After adding in things like the $9T the FED lost... they'll tell you our debt is $14.5T when it's really closer to $50T, and could be as high as $90T. Consider the fact that the tax code has become so large and heavy that even a tax lawyer can't make heads or tails of it.

We live in a world of wishful arithmetic to frost over dismal financial management. Now the solution is to protest those who have managed to succeed in the worst of conditions. After all, if they succeed they must be screwing the poor to do it. I'd believe that as many as 75% of Americans gross less than $34,000 yr. That's not a hard stretch considering 48% of us are on some form of financial aid.

NYC arrest records: Many Occupy Wall Street protesters live in luxury

Quote:
Many “Occupy Wall Street†protesters arrested in New York City reside in more luxurious homes than some of their rhetoric might suggest, a Daily Caller investigation has found.

...
Among addresses for which information is available, single-family homes listed on those police intake forms have a median value of $305,000 — a far higher number than the $185,400 median value of owner-occupied housing units in the United States.
--------------------------------------------------------

Opulent homes of ‘the 99 percent’ [SLIDESHOW]

Quote:
We searched Google Maps and the real estate Multiple Listing Service for the home addresses police collected during the arrests of less-than-law-abiding New York City “occupiers,†and found dream homes aplenty. These opulent houses include in-ground swimming pools, manicured lawns, and golf course access.
-----------------------------------------------------------

A very privileged protest: Wearing $300 jeans and from some of the most exclusive schools, the children of the one per cent out for a good time at Occupy Wall Street

Quote:
One student, who did not want to be named, admitted she had been sleeping at the protest site with her boyfriend despite living in nearby TriBeCa, a neighbourhood which is home to many of New York's A list celebrities.

While she is not camping out, she studies at Bard College in Manhattan - a private school which charges fees of up to $200,000 for a four-year degree.
------------------------------------------

Makes you wonder how little in number the true believers of OWS exist - actual people who believe and are unpaid to participate. What a show....

Its amazing how large this movement really is. It isn't just a few thousand people in major cities across the country. There have been occupy protests in every medium sized to large city in all 50 states and has even expanded across the globe. If this movement benefits the democrats, the GOP is in trouble in 2012 because these people are going to organize to vote at the polls. If I were the GOP I would be pandering to them instead of calling them thugs. The GOP don't realize it yet, but its going to regret not paying attention to OWS

The median monthly rent for those living in apartments whose information is readily available is $1,850.

Democrats made that mistake laughing at the Tea Party.
there have been Occupy protests 285 cities across the United States! I would like to point out that the vast majority of protests have been peaceful.
