At least, that's what posts on CD would have you believe. I have a feeling, most people are somewhere in the middle: Liberal on some issues, conservative on others.
Agreed; the 2-Party system is NOT intended to reflect the main philosophies of American voters. They are an artificial construct designed to allow the political elite to get THEIR causes richly funded--while making it look like they are representing us. The ultra-rich, and the Military-Industrial Complex, want infinite spending on bombs and arms and new interventions.

I'm a Republican for fiscal reasons, but after 5 years in the military I was sickened by the lack of respect for our money, and the counter-productive and futile nature of "nation-building" and "policing the world." Our military blows up million dollar bombs without a thought, and by the thousands, but will nickel and dime the lowly servicemen and women. Every taxpayer should be sickened. Do we buy safety with this incredible expense? No. Just the opposite: every American is now MORE at risk of being killed in a terrorist attack, which is 100% a result of our arrogant militarism that has NOTHING to do with protecting America.

Almost 1 out of 3 Republicans SUPPORTS cuts in the massive military budget: "A recent CNN poll found that just 29 percent of Republican voters would favor defense cuts as part of a debt ceiling deal. (Independent and Democratic voters differ: 50 and 56 percent of them favor defense cuts, respectively.)". How Far Will Republicans Go to Avoid Defense Cuts? - NYTimes.com Yet it is always "Republicans won't hear of cutting the military."

We simply don't have trillions lying around to waste on a ridiculously oversized military, and EVERY fiscal conservative should be voting for Ron Paul for this reason alone: "Why are we still spending one-third more on the military than the Cold War peak, double the level of the 1990s -- some $9,000 a year per American household?...Even returning the spending levels of the 1990s, half today's total and one-third below the Cold War peak, would leave us with the world's largest and most capable military force by far." i agree.

if you are in favor of exporting your manpower, currency, and weapons to another country (or plural, countries) you sure as heck can't call yourself a fiscal conservative.

I choose to follow my conscience, evidence and reason. Where that ends up placing me on the political spectrum is just commentary.

I am a socialist, not a liberal. Thus I couldn't answer this dumb poll.

I actually read and study stuff so that I might actually have an informed opinion about the things I vote for, so that makes me a 'liberal'.

The only excuse socialists have for the failure of their system is that the right people have not yet done it by the book just yet.

These are volatile and turbulent times for our country-------we have massive problems that threaten our nation.

We do not need to elect our leaders on the basis of title of liberal, conservative ect........ We need energetic leaders who will recognize that we need to put people back to work, to cut massive deficits that threaten our credit ratings, and to bolster the sagging morale of our people during the last five or six years of job loss and worry.

All of these problems are not self exclusive------with people who are creative and imaginative we can still pull this country out of our tailspin.

I am not pro Obama nor do I blame him for the morass we are now in-----I just think we can use a creative fresh approach and energy. Nobody the Republicans have thrown out can even come remotely close to the dynamism and imagination that I think we need.

Our tax codes need to be fixed---as does our infrastructure. Our entitlement systems need to restructured in an equitable and prudent manner-----we have a truck load of problems.

Somebody bold and creative please step forward---we need you.
