And watch the price of a loaf of bread shoot up to $5.00 if not higher.
The US doesn't make enough gluten anymore..imported from guess where ?
80% of our wheat gluten comes from China..80%.
The USG removed quotas in 2000 and China flooded the US with cheap wheat gluten and drove US gluten mfg to the grave.

Really..want to shoot yourself in the foot here ?

I don't recall bread being $5 before 2000 so why would it go to $5 now. It may go up very quickly for a short period of time, but once we started producing it will go down again.

How about we just close all of the farms and pay them to produce nothing and import all of our food from foreign countries for cheaper prices. How does that sound?

In this economy how quickly do you think that would happen ?

I'm not pro-global by any means. But you cannot undo overnight what has been going on for decades.

That's all I'm saying. I avoid "Made in China" at all cost and pay higher prices because of that. I would love not to have to read every label of every piece of food I buy.

There was a time when you could just buy grapes and not have to check because you knew they came from California. Not anymore..more times than not they are now from Chile.

You would be surprised at how quickly business can respond when there is demand for the product and a profit to be made.

It is not an even playing field people. Lets even it out a little and start placing tariff's on chinese goods.
