His current gf is also a couple years older than he is. I think this whole thing is a joke, no way would this girl be charged with anything.

Ridiculous law. It needs to be handled on a case by case basis. Even though it is usually foolish, young people are capable of having intimate feelings. What do they do when one is 18, and the other is 17, but turning 18 in a week or something?

A 16 year old is a minor and a 19 year old is a legal adult. There is a huge difference in terms of maturity between those three years.

Maturity? Hahah...Not when the only interaction is a quickie in the bathroom.

I doubt very much that teen stars want to have chaparones with them 24/7 so this is a pointless issue.

I don't know why a "quickie in the bathroom" is different, it's still sexual behavior.

But I highly doubt this really even happened so I don't know why it's being taken so seriously.

The police investigating this and the D.A actually charging are two entirely different things.

The age of consent in California is 18. I believe some states stipulate that the adult and minor have to be a certain age removed from one another, but not California

The operative word is "consensual ."

It's statutory rape, in accordance with State law. The 16 yr. old has no right to consent since he hasn't reached the age where he can legally consent.

Only in some states. Quite a few states have the age of consent set at 16 and rightfully so.

The amazingly idiotic notion that someone is responsible enough to operate thousands of pounds of machinery at high rates of speed, yet isn't mature enough to engage in an instinctual activity is downright laughable.

If that's the case, then do you believe we should lower the age at which one becomes a legal adult to 16? Including being able to get married without parental permission, buy a house, drink, etc?
