Rep. Laura Richardson of California says the House Ethics Committee has named a panel to investigate whether she improperly used her staff for political purposes.
In a statement Friday, the Democratic lawmaker said the committee unfairly singled her out because she's an African-American, while ignoring other lawmakers who may have misused their congressional staffs.
Richardson said numerous House members use their offices for personal lodging, saving tens of thousands of dollars at taxpayers' expense.

Herman Cain is a private citizen. They haven't even waited for him to get the nomination or elected to anything yet.
"We argue that the committee has chosen to unjustly target its investigations concerning use of official House resources for political purposes on certain members, while overlooking the well-publicized misuse of official House resources for personal purposes by numerous other members of Congress," Richardson said in a statement.
The old "i'm innocent because everyone else is doing it" defense. Oh, and of course it's also because she's black.
Her district will be eliminated in 2012, so her political career is near-kaput.
However...
One has to wonder about the voters who elected her despite her financial scandals. Most likely Long Beach voters would have voted for anyone who had a (D) next to their name, regardless of what they did or who they were. Another reason why partisanship is screwing up America (as if there weren't enough already)

+1 Raising racial concerns when there is no evidence that racism is involved is such a frustrating thing. Racism continues on to this day, and will continue on as long as people look and behave differently, but "crying wolf" every time somebody does something against you that you don't like is so harmful to the people who really do suffer from racist/discriminatory acts. They are taken less seriously than they should be because people have caught on the "race card" people and are becoming numb to these claims.
When the politicians themselves are blaming their fellow workers of "racism" then you shouldn't question why American are crying the same thing when they get blamed for something.
Maybe similarly to the "Super Committee" they need a House Super Ethics Committee to get through the backlog of ethics hearings of members. I don't even think Mad Maxine has had her ehtics hearing yet.
As sad as it is these folks are representative of the communities and constituencies who sent them to Congress.
