Because it seems to be almost a certainty that once people reach a certain income level, they become just like you ... adopt the same elitist attitude, and have universal disdain for those they consider to be the "little people". You can almost set your watch by it, and it's as consistent as the sunrise.

But let me share another perspective. My grandfather ... one of the most kind, decent men ever to breathe air on this planet, lived through the depression ... worked to support his family in the Civilian Corps ... then worked his arse off as a fine carpenter for the rest of his life, and didn't retire until he was 65 years old (and being a carpenter at 65 is not an easy thing). There was no such thing as calling in sick ... and I doubt the man ever took a vacation in his entire life. He lived out his final days with a little pension from the carpenters union, supplemented by a small contribution from Social Security. When he died, all that was left were his personal belongings. He had nothing but meager savings, enough to pay for settling his account with the world. And he left this world 30 years ago. I cannot imagine what would become of him today with his fixed meager retirement income, as food prices are soaring, rents are rising, and energy costs increasing and health care costs shooting through the roof. And there never was a man on this earth who worked harder than he did ... and never did I ever hear him criticize or have a harsh word for anyone.

So before you go judging people ... realize this ... it takes the whole population to create the comforts you enjoy ... the carpenter that builds your house .. the plumber that ensures your waste is removed from your 5 bathrooms ... the waste workers that recycle your crap back into potable water ... the truck driver who hauls your groceries to the store shelves ... the farmer who grows that food ... the harvesters that bring them in from the fields ... the police officer that protects your property .. the fireman that will risk his life to save you in case of big trouble ... the workers who build everything you use on a daily basis ..from that coffee pot to the car that transports you ... and the roads you drive on.

Not everyone can be a glorified, over paid white coat drug pusher for the pharma-cartel, poisoning the population while receiving obscene compensation for the effort. And it's probably that very elitist attitude you have that allows you to do what you do, without giving it a second thought.
The OP is upset about the OWS people and those looking for others to pay their way. I haven't read him criticizing the working people you mention here or people like your grandfather. You do see a difference in the two don't you?

[quote=Suncc49;22000705]You made your money in medicine or with some medical related business? good for you.

The 1% that most people are RAGING at are people like Jon Corzine from MF Global, Jamie Dimon, Lloyd Blankfein, Henry Paulson, Larry Summers, Warren Buffett, and generally any other financial thief on Wall Street.

They are complaining about the CRONY CAPITALISM and revolving door between big wall street firms and government positions, TO ENABLE THE FUNNELING OF LOSSES ONTO TAXPAYER BACKS, WHILE PRIVATIZING PROFITS OR RIGGING COMPLETELY SO THAT PUBLIC ASSETS ARE TAKEN AS PROFIT/BONUSES FOR THEMSELVES.

We bailed out firms that took on HUGE risks with TAXPAYER money.

Now because of this, we are all poorer. The money printing and inflation and ZERO INTEREST RATE POLICY are killing this country.

Savers get no return on CD's/Dividends.....

Those with savings have less as more is printed / devalued.

You probably legitimately earned your money in the medical field, good.

They are mad at the douchehats who BUY a politician, make leveraged bets with OTHERS money on Wall Street, BANKRUPT the company, then ride off with a bonus and no PROSECUTIONS.

Got it?????????????????????????????

Excellent post.

Call your local senators let them know as Americans we are fed up with Wall Street and mortgage fraud.

Support Richard Cordray for regulator of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (created by Elizabeth Warren) . Call 1-800-944-6762 to be automatically connected with your senator or visit DefendyourDollars.org

I agree with the underlined statement above. I didn’t miss anything – I might have been too terse though. Let me elaborate.

I was responding to the statement below, specifically the underlined section. I actually agree with the statement, however it has nothing to do with the OP or this thread. The OP is talking about the whiners in the US – not the rest of the world. That is my point.

I find it absurd that people of our means try to fight a war against the "lower class."
The only reason I achieved what I have achieved is because I was fortunate enough to be born in this country. I don't care about "hard work." Most of us work hard. My employees work their asses off. There are a lot of women in Pakistan who "work hard." Are you saying the reason they are not millionaires is because they did not work hard enough?
Please.
By being born in this country, we have all started on a higher platform than most others in the world. This is a fact. Let's end the denial. I benefited by being born in America and so did you. If we had both been born in Nigeria, it is unlikely that either of us would have succeeded.

In turn, the whole society suffers and loses out on the most talented having endless barriers to their dreams.

Just because you suck at dreaming and following through with those dreams doesn't mean everyone should live in your sucky world.
Cool projection but let me bring you down to reality. I myself do alright. I pay my taxes and enjoy steady employment after graduation.

However by your logic are the 1% the only ones who can afford automobiles? Ferrari is an Italian car based in Europe where they put more effort towards programs of social welfare, yet since it was based there would you not agree that the car had a strong domestic market?

Countries that tax and put it into social programs typically end up having a better, healthier and better educated populace. It provides a fairer start for children of all incomes, rather than the ones who have a silver spoon in their mouth.

By logic going on here, conservative children who are born into wealthy families are just as bad as those "welfare leaches." They did not earn it, they were born into it, they enjoy a life of luxury off of their parents simply because they gave birth to them.

Would you not agree society would be much better off if we put more resources into running efficient social programs such as medical coverage, education and infrastructure?

The argument of "they are lazy" is a rather double edged sword. I know many "conservative" kids who dropped out of college and now work for their dad in a position they are not qualified for.

I see a general attitude that says "I made it, and if you didn't, it's your own damned fault". That's what I read.

Now, just like the overall population, the folks at OWS are also a diverse bunch that don't fit one political type or demographic. And even though many don't really understand what it is they're protesting, and therefore are easily led to support the wrong agendas (like raising taxes; or socialist-Marxist type philosophies) they at least understand that there are serious problems, unlike others who'd criticize them as lazy and wanting a free ride. I think the majority aren't looking for a free ride at all, but just an economic system that isn't run by criminal gangsters who have stacked the deck in their favor.

So rather than criticize, I believe the proper course is solidarity, with a dose of education so that their movement isn't hijacked to support just another flavor of anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-free markets, which only serve as assistance to the globalist agenda.

I didn't get that from what he said at all.

If many of them don't know what they are protesting then it is nothing more than a pointless excuse for an outdoor party isn't it?
