I think they are well placed, since boomers are the group who seems to support continued high levels of Medicare and SS spending.

You ignore the fact that every day that passes sees more people feeding off the government, and some day in the future those feeding will outnumber those paying for the "feed".
We are in a recession, if not a depression, and our laws are structured in a way where government assistance automatically expands as demand for it rises. That's the reason more people are feeding off the government in recent years.

The long-term trend of "people feeding off the government" is that there will be more retired boomers, and fewer workers. That has not occured quite yet.

You really need to get YOUR priorities straight,...because it is YOUR generation who holds the political keys to the future of socialism in this country.

Have a great day!
it is Boehner & Obama & Co. , and the super-duper committee, who hold the keys.

The funny part about all this, is that no matter who you vote for, both sides are debating on how to cut your benefits as we speak.

When you have ungrateful selfish children throwing their toys out of the pram blaming BBs for the economic problems, I'm hardly going to hold his hand and coddle him. I' not going to have some kid who knows absolutely nothing blaming a generation for his problems.

Maybe the government should stop giving student loans. Let the parents and kids foot the bill. Why should the government make it easy for them? Maybe the government should hand him an unemployment check because he's unemployed, doesn't matter that he didn't contribute into the system or pay taxes.

I was a single mother raising a child with no child support coming in. I was the perfect candidate to go on welfare for 17 years, and maybe have a baby or two while I was at it - keeping on the government payroll even longer. If I had gone on welfare I would be told - get a job!!! I did get a job.

I was never arrested for a crime, served jury duty, didn't cheat the government on my tax returns, so I will collect what is BY LAW rightfully mine and not keep quite when some whingy kid who really doesn't know what life is about points fingers at an entire generation who he thinks is financially coasting through life and who has way too much disposable cash.

Then you get the whingy kid who thinks that BBs should have saved for their retirement. If that's the case then all those people in their 30s and 40s who thought banks were giving away homes, who then lost their home, should have saved in case they lost their jobs and could cover their mortgage for 3 years, but they thought the money train was going to run forever.

Now we have someone saying lets really screw all those people who have paid into a gov mandated system.
I agree with the op in 1 regard. Only a fool would trust in a gov system to provide for their needs.
Maybe SS should be an option. You can choose to pay into it or not. Then all those who chose not to can fend for themselves when they reach retirement age and not expect a red cent from the government because they made bad choices when it came to their money. That should keep everyone happy.

I have to laugh when these kids, thats right kids, call us greedy and selfish and the want to pull the carpet out from under us and let us go for a free fall, talk about hypocrisy. Why not go after the real freeloaders, people that have been on welfare for generations or those who collect SS dis checks and are able to work (I know a few) You might save a few bucks there. Or end these wasteful useless wars and take that money and put it back into the system.

There are a few of us who will continue to have that monthly check deposited in the bank for no other reason than to irk the "young whippersnappers" who continually attack the boomer generation.

There will never be another generation like the "boomers". They took the risks and profited from them. Now the young'uns want to begin their lives at the same point it took boomers decades to achieve. The younger generation wants everything now,...but doesn't want to work for it.

You think Uncle Sam is "taking care" of BBs, yet you, the ME generation, wants everything for free. And who would be handing out those "free" gifts to you and who would be funding those gifts??
I don't believe anyone is 'entitled' to anything. If a BB bought a house and it lost value, then tough luck. They are not 'entitled' to the house at any specific value.

And what the hell did I ever want for free? I have had a job since I was 14, paid my own way through college, started investing at 19, bought my first home at 23, am currently putting myself though grad school. Not every 20-something wants something for free. The most I have ever gotten from anyone is a public school education. Baby Boomers have never taken care of me. In fact, it is MY tax money that will take care of baby boomers as they retire with no money because they were too stupid to plan ahead and save for rainy days.

Pay my parents back? You mean my alcoholic father? Or my mother who I have been giving money to so she can get by?

Not all of us come from nice pretty homes with parents who supported us our whole lives champ.
