You're confusing the way you want the Russians to behave with the way states with geopolitical interests actually behave. I'm afraid your nuclear fantasies are going to remain just that, because the Russian leadership won't behave in the inanely delusional way you obviously want them to behave.

Nice to see a well written response to the possibility of Russian action. Some on here just love to "toss in" Russia and China as if they were so strongly allied with Iran that they would forego their economic development (and cities, as you said).

Okay, I'll give you a hint:

That's part of the formula you need to calculate how many aircraft you need to destroy a particular target (plus provide air cover since attack aircraft cannot do that).

You could at least demonstrate you know what you're talking about by telling us what the variables mean. I know what they mean, because I used to sit in the TOC and do these.

Russia does have a NATO/Warsaw Pact-like defense treaty with Iran and three other countries in Central Asia.

We've discussed that here on C-D. It was signed several years ago.

If Russia came to the aid of Iran, they would not use nuclear weapons.

However, if Russia did use nuclear weapons, Russia would use a 10 kt ERW (Enhanced Radiation Weapon -- yeah a neutron bomb) delivered by a Blackjack.

The damage would be equivalent to a normal nuclear device in the 0.1 kt to 1 kt range.

It would look like a dud. For god's sake stay the hell away from anything made of aluminum. That stuff will kill you (literally -- about 3 days).
