Now why Could the GOP not have this guy as a Candidate. This is a guy with real appeal. He would have strong appeal to more moderates and independents. He is a solid citizen.

Instead they get a bunch of wingnuts. There are many Republicans out there that are electable like Powell. Why did the party not get behind them?

Mr. Powell will soon witness the smears that will be levied against him. I have no doubt he can handle it.

I am also a great admirer of Colin Powell. I would vote for him, and not just because we are both black! LOL

This is just a missed opportunity for the Republican party. They should have tried to persuade him into running.

Powell is a Progressive RINO. Everyone except the OP seems to know that. I used to respect him but when he endorsed Obama he lost my respect. Obama has done more to undermine our military than did even Clinton.

You know as well as I do that if Hillary had won the nomination then McCain would have picked Powell as his VP and the GOP campaign would've been ultra-male, military-oriented, and verging into sexism (through no fault of either the presidential or VP candidate) as much as the actual McCain campaign (through no fault of McCain himself) verged on racism and xenophobia.

The Republicans did not "pick" Powell to run due to the fact that he chose to not run. The nomination was his for the asking in 1996 (Dole would have been kicked to the curb) and Powell chose to decline. Now, he's too old. Just like you all said McCain was in 2008 (they're around the same age).

Had he run we would be talking about a Clinton Presidency of 1 term.
