Ezra Klein - The red state ripoff

...if you don't want or need high taxes... why are you sucking off the teet of liberal America? If we booted all the red states, we might have a fair level of federal investment in the states that work and produce in this country.

The right paints the left as lazy and weak, but the actual facts show that the right NEED the left in order to float their strongholds.

Who's in favor of the secession of the south?

Ezra Klein's a beltway weasel who traffics in pointless team red vs team blue divisiveness. Yes, tax revenues aren't distributed evenly because it costs a lot more to maintain a basic standard of living in rural areas, but that's no reason to perpetuate a false dichotomy of regionalist enmity, and anyone who falls for it is a sucker.

We need to look at this. It's too bad that the author did such a poor job. Treating states with $1.05 the same as $2.02 is stupid.

Here's the actual data: The Tax Foundation - Federal Spending Received Per Dollar of Taxes Paid by State, 2005

Even that isn't too useful b/c not all spending is the same, but it's a start.
