A report released Wednesday from the British Medical Assn.’s Board of Science calls on governments in the U.K. to impose a ban on smoking in vehicles as part of its overall effort to “achieve a tobacco-free society by 2035.”

And we sometimes think the U.S. Government is intrusive. Hmm...

Don't worry, I'm sure it's coming here as well. Sooner or later.

Hopefully not. The U.S. has a much higher regard for individual liberties than the U.K.

Tell that to the anti-smoking Nazis a few threads down. There was a time that the US had a higher regard for individual liberties, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Sounds about right. Cop sees you smoking in your car and pulls you over for a $200 ticket. And perhaps a mandatory anti-smoking class, along the lines of 'John classes' that people busted for soliciting are forced to attend.

Not only a brand new source of revenue for the state, but a nice employment opportunity teaching anti smoking classes for some politicians' pals.

Yeah, which is slowly being whittled away. Thank you very much big government libs.

Didn't I predict this a couple months ago?

All you have to do is look at our free speech laws. The UK and Europe would never tolerate some of the outlandish speech that is protected in the U.S. The Westboro Baptist Church is a good example. Another is that designer who was put in jail by France earlier this year for telling someone that he wished Hitler had "gassed" her.

If you want to view the U.S. with doom and gloom, have at it, I guess, but things aren't as bad as you believe.

Would that be the U.S government that has made marijuana illegal? Yes, much less intrusive.

In many areas, we have a lot more freedom than we did years ago.

I'm glad I'm not as pessimistic as some of you.

No, but things could also be better.
