You ask if it's wrong for you to feel the way you do about these huge, injustices?! Of course not! I suspect that you are being rhetorical and are perfectly happy to let "the justice system" work in the behalf of both of these cases. In this context, I support you whole heartedly.
IMO it's kind of pointless to hate Loughner, he is mentally ill and like some other people said, as much as people might want to, you CAN'T hold him responsible for what he did.
In fairness, the shooter is utterly looney tunes crazy.
It's like the amish guy that went nuts and shot up the school and the community rallied around his family as well.
I have a hard time feeling hatred towards someone like that having had a cousin that went schizo were he was previously just like you and I. It's just a sad story all-around.
Now if we are talking about someone that knew right from wrong etc. then I'd be happy to help throw the switch.
Sadly this woman along with many others fell victim to a psychotic man. OK...so she has forgiven him. BUT are there certain things that are unforgiveable?
Look at Charles Manson....Ted Bundy...John Wayne Gacy. Should we just chalk up their crimes to psychotic behavior as well? Should they have been put in psychiatric hospitals? Because...welll...they must have been out of their minds to do what they did...right?
The right thing to do with criminals such as this guy is to put them down...just as you would put down a rabid dog. It is the duty of a society to insure that such dangerous people can never be allowed to inflict their psychotic fantasies on the public again. And the only way to truly insure that is to exterminate them when they are caught.
We have been taught...time after time...that our system is not a perfect one, and that there are occasions where a State board of psychiatrists or a parole board have mistakenly felt that such a criminal is no longer a danger to society, and they are set free...only to rape, slaughter and otherwise destroy the lives of others.
I am happy for Ms. Gifford if she feels that she MUST forgive the man who has ruined her life in order for her to continue living. I have no problem with that. But there is more at stake than Ms. Gifford here. That man killed 6 other people that day, and we must make sure he can never do that again.
OK Ms. Gifford....step aside now...I'll throw the f'ing switch for you.

Right...and any successful society must do what is necessary to protect it's members. There is no insurance that this guy will be locked away for life...I offer the case of ARTHUR SHAWCROSS as evidence of that.
On the bright side, she's alive and has the best healthcare our money can buy. A much more fortunate fate than the other shooting victims. May they rest in peace.
