Pentagon officials are speaking publicly about the military's new 30,000-pound massive ordnance penetrator, or MOP, known now as the biggest "bunker-busting bomb" in the world.

The Air Force has already received an undisclosed number of these bombs from Boeing, all designed to fit exclusively with the B-2 and B-52 bombers

"It gives us a far greater capability to reach and destroy an enemy's weapons of mass destruction that are located in well protected underground facilities... to a magnitude far greater than we have now," Pentagon Spokesman Capt. John Kirby said at a briefing Wenesday.

But, strangely, Kirby denied these bombs are designed to target Iran, the only country known to have buried its nuclear weapons program.
"The system is not aimed at any one country, it's to develop a capability we believe we need," Kirby said. That remark was met by audible groans and various comments of disbelief from the Pentagon press corps.

What do you think? Are we eventually going to destroy, or assist in destroying, Iran's WMD facilities?

IF Iran develops a nuke, it will be Israel's job to deal with it. It won't be a threat to the USA. And the Israelis are more than capable of mounting the proper response.

We already sold I think it was 400 of these things to Israel three or four years ago. They got plenty ready to go boom when they deem the time is right.

Does the never-ending saga with North Korea ring a bell?

What do they have to carry it to the target?

I would imagine they have something to carry it but without something like a B2 it's not going to happen but you can bet the Israelis have other plans that will be very effective.

Really besides the point, if any bunker busters were sold to Israel these weren't the ones if the article is accurate.

The timing of the announcement is intentional. Sabre rattling.

Another toy for the unending war machine. A great example of private profit from publically borrowed money. Also an example of the continous war. I wonder if we will run out of money or countries first.

It wasn't these buggers. GBu-28's I think they were. Negotiated while Bush was still in office and the sale went through right after obama took office if I remember right. Number we sent em may be off too as I'm just pullin it off the top of my head from an article I remember reading.
