Reports are increasing across Europe of patients with infections that are nearly impossible to treat.

An estimated 25,000 people die each year in the European Union from antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. Countries with the highest rates of resistant infections, such as Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Hungary and Bulgaria, also tended to be the ones with the highest use of antibiotics.

World Health Organisation scientists warned two years ago that overuse of antibiotics risked returning the world to a pre-antibiotic era in which infections did not respond to treatment. The warnings have been ignored.

Well there's a drug or vaccine for about anything you can think of these days.
Gone are the days when you actually "caught" something and just stayed home and let it go through your system.

I'll agree with the other poster who said this subject has been brought up by scientists for decades...

So now it's news because the EU has the problem?

Socialist heaven hit by immune viruses?

My heart bleeds...

And back then Penicillin was the wonder shot that cured all.
Not used so widely today as many bacteria are resistant to it now.

Or Sulfa drugs. Too bad I'm allergic to both! But it's only a rash...I'd put up with it if I had to.

Not to downplay the story, but I've been hearing about antibiotic resistant illnesses since I was a kid.
