It never has been. The Republicans have been waging a war on the poor since the 1870s.

The POOR already pay taxes.. They buy something, they pay a tax on it..
This is both a DEM and REPUB angle..

Do you think the DEMS are more sensitive to the POOR or do you think they pander to the poor so they will continue to vote for them!?

Do you think the REPUBS are more sensitive to Upper Class or do you think they pander to them so they will continue to vote for them!?

Both parties pick and angle/hot topic and pander for votes. They give don't give TWO CRAPS about the real issues, they just want your vote.. and in case you have not noticed, neither has done jack crap about the economy.. it sux when Bush was in office it is SUX now.. both parties answer for the economy is to BLAME the other side..

Sure, and I also support a (modest) wealth tax, since the wealthy receive far more benefit from government than do the non-wealthy.

If you doubt this, just try putting your wealth (and your person) in a third world country and see how safe you and your wealth are.

I think every American should get a tax exemption for the cost to pay for basic necessities, such as basic shelter, basic food, basic clothing, etc.. Everything after that should be taxed at a flat rate.

I really don't know, not to high I would hope, but it would have to be enough to cover the budget.

Because, I assume, you don't live in poverty. Not that 47% does, but a big portion do. You want them to pay? I just can't get on board with that.

And to be honest, we don't 'pay for it' now. Big problems that need to be simplified and Constitutional.

Basically, you agree with the current tax structure then. Currently, everyone pays the same rate on income up to a certain percent. Then everyone pays the same rate on the next level. And then everyone pays the same rate on the next level. So wealthy people get the same rate as everyone else. If they don't like paying more on the upper levels, they are free to not make income that puts them in the upper levels.
