Conservatives love to talk about how bad of a president FDR was when it is a fact that the country loved him in the 1930s to the point they elected him 4 times.

Only an idiot believes the political propaganda that he prolonged the Great Depression. People living thru the times, obviously, knew better.

Yet didn't go back down to 5% until the 40s. Doesn't prove anything.

I'm not saying he necessarily prolonged it by the way. I'm just saying that it's a debatable issue with hundreds of factors.

I was born 10 days after FDR was officially elected by the electoral college and as poor as we were we never really knew how bad it was till after the War ended. Things did start to pick up after that but nothing changed a whole lot while he was in office.

When you talk about employment picking up while FDR was in office you are including the CCC, PWA, and WPA and those were nothing but being paid subsistence wages by the government. More of that government paying people to avoid the high numbers of unemployment. You do know that Obama and his advisors think the same thing about employment that FDR thought, I think.

It was still better that it was during the depression prior to his first term.

For the same reason that FDR was elected. So many people liked his progressive ideas and thought they were helping them. Wasn't it FDR who was responsible for Social Security, one of those horrible entitlement programs of today? Many of those people didn't realize that SS wouldn't be as good as it appeared to them then.
