airlines need to charge by weight,, the heavier you are the more fuel you burn in a plane,.. so a 400 pound person should pay double of a 200 pound person.. it might force people to lose some weight....

i say the airline should have to refund all of the standing customers airfare..

The airlines have known that people were getting bigger since when, the 80s?
The seats have actually gotten smaller since then.

I blame the airlines for this one. They should have had bigger seats, with more leg room.
I'm 5ft 6in and its not comfortable to have your legs squished up all the time.

Not BS.

Overhead Bin - Flier, displaced by obese seatmate, forced to stand (http://overheadbin.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/11/23/8980390-flier-displaced-by-obese-seatmate-forced-to-stand - broken link)

Liz Landau, a spokesperson for US Airways, confirmed that Berkowitz was inconvenienced by a passenger of size and told msnbc.com “it was his choice to stand.”
“His seatmate had the same right to his seat as Mr. Berkowitz did to his. So here’s where the diplomacy and cooperation of all passengers comes into play,” the airline said in a statement.

How much fuel do you want these planes to carry exactly?

Back in the seventies I weighed 300lbs! I remember being embarassed that I was so tight in the seat. It was my fault and no one else's. (yes, by 1980 I had lost 140 of it, and a year or so later had lost 160, and in case you're curious, shame on me for being 150 today instead of my perfect weight of 140)

Fatties should pay more if they are as fat as I was, at not quite 5'7" height. The world should not accomodate if it has to change to meet the fatter population. Fatties should lose weight. I did and if I can, most can.

I blame the airlines. And yes, if you are that fat, you should buy 2 seats.

I agree this was totally lame and the man should somehow be compensated; however, how was the airline supposed to know the weight of the obese guy who bought the ticket?

I have been there...it's horrible...honestly, it's not getting any better.

Frankly, I'm 5'6" and no seat in coach has ever been comfortable...even when I was only 120lb. I feel so bad for the tall people...wtf?! I shouldn't have to pay 5 - 8 times the price to fly first class and be able to relax for 2 seconds.
