Exactly.

The War on Drugs has been an abysmal failure on all fronts. Drugs aren't exactly hard to find. It has lead to an enormous spike in the prison population. Blacks and Hispanics are disproportionately more likely to receive the attention of anti-drug law enforcement despite the fact that whites are just as likely to use drugs (and are the biggest consumers from an absolute point of view). It has increased the wealth and power of street gangs, mafia families, and drug cartels.

I fail to see where are the big advantages of the Drug War. You could say more people might use drugs if they were legal. That may be true, but a lot of the downsides to being a heroin addict or crack head stem from the fact that it is illegal.

I just see a lot of wasted money and a lot of ruined lives.

All, no reason to outlaw things. Rat poison can kill you, but we don't make it illegal, and people don't use it. I don't know if it can make me high or not, but I'm not going to try it because it can kill me.

Anyone stupid enough to find out, is going to do so whether you make it legal or not.

Regulate, like we do alcohol.
