I hear a lot of Republicans saying they want to reduce government spending to pre-2008 levels. If the Defense cuts go into place it would bring Defense spending back to 2007 levels. So wouldn't that mean Republicans would be fine with the Defense cuts that will happen because of the trigger in the debt ceiling deal?

It's a political game of chicken between the dems and republicans.

1. Do nothing and defense spending gets cut
2. We go back to the Clinton tax rates for Everyone

I say it's a win win for deficit. If taxes go back to Clinton levels, more revenue is raised. And with defense cuts less spending by the government.

Pretty simple. I don't even know why there is even a debate about this.

The Dems will get their tax revenue and get defense spending cuts. What more do the Dems want.

And no you can't have your cake and ear it too. Either revert to Clinton taxes for everyone or keep the bush tax cuts for everyone. There is no middle road for this. Everyone must go in together to reduce the 15 trillion dollar debt we are in.
