It was the fault of a bunch of animals and thugs that used the beating and resulting court decision to act out and get free stuff!!
Did anyone ever sue them?

As for the cops, heck, I remember watching the news about it, in the riot area there wasn't a cop in sight!! That is why Reginald Denny got beaten so easily!
Because Gates ordered all cops to be pulled off the streets as payback. The LAPD were very brutal to those who wouldn't shoot back but wouldn't mess with people who would (this was the general pattern under Gates). This taught the lesson to many people to start packing so the cops would leave you alone. What if the Occupiers are exercising their Second Amendment rights to bear arms in self-defense?

Besides, this is totally different. Wholly different set of circumastances. How is it in any way similar?
Even higher unemployment, even more desperation. It's only different because the police department is better than it was, mainly because the department had to learn the hard way.

No, I was 15-miles away in an eastern LA county suburb, thankfully.
I was.

That explains your bias.

Probably so. Too long ago to remember..and don't care. We're talking about the Occupiers in 2011, not a riot in 1992.

???No, they did that to not escalate the riot and get cops hurt. I remember this.

No reason to act like animals. Not then, not now.

I agree! If you want to trip over trash, illegal aliens, and used needles on your way to the surf. Then you can fight your way through a rediculous ammount of traffic on the way up to Wrightwood.

Times will never change in this brain-washed country of ours. Look back to the 1910's, when we had the Socialist Party, Communist Party and the Communist Labor Party.

Vigilantes, super-patriots at that time could destroy a Socialist Party headquarters, bust heads and be given medals!

Just need to plan your travel time right. And some people may think those needles are a bonus!!

I didn't hear the mayor has backed off, just biding time to dismantle the filthy, stench-ridden squatters camp.

Once an end to the occupation is negotiated, or once it is allowed to die out on its own, that will happen. And that may be sooner rather than later.

Funny how you defend Gates' decision in '92 to pull out cops in the name of not getting cops hurt - which empowered the rioters to get more violent and more out of control - but attack Beck's decision to make things go as smoothly as possible in the name of not getting anyone hurt (which actually has worked).

I didn't defend it. Just explained it. I remember yelling at the TV "where the hell are the cops?!!" I wanted them to go in with guns blazing.

Gates didn't pull the cops out to protect them he pulled them out to watch the city burn to make a political statement.

Despite Gates accomplishments his handling of the LA riots was his greatest failure. I know many ex cops will jump to his defense , but the facts remain the same.

BTW L.A. voter turnouts are atrocious and I agree more people should definitely vote.

Gotta give them the time they need to film a gay porn video like the OWS Oakland camp did. I'm sure some of San Fernando's finest are out in full force at the squatters village.
