I never understood why some people think that American soldiers, some the toughest and most disciplined people on the planet, would not be able to handle knowing a fellow soldier was gay. After all the sh.t they go through and overcome, that's the thing they can't handle?

Yeah...they weren't really....

Some were possibly kicked out IF they made it too well known.

Friend who has been in Marines for 20 years has had gay Marines under his command,it has even become known(through other Marines seeing them) he asked his senior NCO what he thought should be done and the answer was nothing beyond telling that Marine to be more discreet.
