WSP: 6 troopers hurt in Monday's Capitol protests | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KOMO News
Our state tax revenue is actually projected to go up by $2 billion for the next budget cycle, but apparently that translates to draconian, painful budget 'cuts' in Washington state. The Gov has called a special session of the legislature to figure out how to distribute the pain.
In response, as many as 3000 protesters have showed up to protest the draconian cuts. Yesterday in fights with state patrol troopers, 6 troopers were hurt, along with one other state worker who suffered bruised ribs & facial injuries. Two of the troopers were bitten by protesters.
The state patrol estimates that so far the protests have cost $96,000. Knowing how state employment works, I'd guess you can triple that number since the injured will get an extended stay on 'paid administrative leave.' And especially in the case of the bite victims, I don't begrudge them.
Ironic that these protesters claiming to be worried about the state budget are making it worse, even if only by a relatively small amount. $300 grand here, $300 grand there, eventually you're talking real money.
