Local News | Occupy protesters take to squatting in vacant houses | Seattle Times Newspaper

Between 8-15 protesters have moved into a boarded-up duplex across from Garfield High School (fairly close to downtown). They painted the house red, green, and black, and strung up a large banner and anarchist flag (see photo at link).

Protesters in Portland and Oakland are following a similar course. Occupy Oakland provides classes in how to go about squatting. A protester from Portland says:

The duplex in Seattle apparently was foreclosed (article is not quite clear). Seattle police say that they are aware of the illegal squatting but apparently do not want to get involved.

Seems the occupiers sole purpose anymore is to break the law...

They hide behind colorful banners to cover the fact they are inept in living in American society...

Lemme guess, these are more college kiddies who are too good to dirty their hands in actual work...

Perhaps their parents changed the locks while they were out protesting and they have nowhere else to stay.

If it's foreclosed then the bank owns it and it's up to the bank to call the police.

More than likely the bank has no clue it owns the home or that squatters are there.

The banks should just start charging them rent.

OWS'ers have said repeatedly that they are not against capitalism so they cetainly don't expect a free house, do they?

Painting the house?

So I get the idea they feel this will be at least a semi-permanent arrangement?

The police have a duty to enforce the law.
