Sooner or later, many other threads end up in comparing systems
or with comentators proposing their own versions of political/economic systems.
So,in reference, roughly & generally ,
to capitalism & its variations ( Hong-Kong before 1997,Singapore,
America-to some extent)
& to socialism & its variations( Europe,Scandinavia, the late Soviet Union...)
which system do u think is better & why ..?

Also, tell us your ideas about an ideal system,
for America primarily but for the rest of the world as well...

I hope this thread becomes very succesful......

Neither in "pure" form, but in a pragmatic way. Take Singapore that you (and others have) presented as a successful capitalistic society whereas in fact, it is an extremely regulated society, both culturally and economically. In fact, dictatorial! Personally, I would not want that. There should be economic freedom with an understanding that capitalism is about an individual, not about a nation, whereas a nation is about its people. There can be conflicting interests between the two, which must be worked at, and an efficient government kept in check with an educated populace, and free from corruption, is necessary.

You've got to use a combination of both.

The more government interdiction into the market, the worse the consequences. Consider it the equivalent of the hardening of the arteries.

You might as well as, which do you prefer

Perfect Health or Lung Cancer
Beautiful Music or screeching Brakes
Warm Sunny Day or Overcast, cold, windy, rainy day

My point is there is no comparison. Capitalism brings all this is good (economically) to life. It produces goods and services, that real people using real money desire to purchase, own and consume.

Communism is force, against-the-will coercion to get people to arrive at an outcome not of their own creation, desire or liking.

Those who advocate communism, and its younger, smaller, weaker sibling socialism are into force and control of others.

Those who advocate capitalism are into liberty, self-determination and self-reliance.

A regulated (but not overly regulated to the point that it becomes too complex) free market system, with a strong social safety net, thriving middle class, public healthcare and affordable education - that's the way to go, IMO.

Pure isms are always bad. We shouldn't let children starve, or allow people to die in the street without medical care. We shouldn't allow monopolization that stifles the market. But we also shouldn't get in the way of the free market either.

It is a difficult question to answer in a forum, because it will vary based on every issue.

People may like social security, but not welfare.

Pure capitalism and pure socialism are both bad.
