Yet there is never a peep here concerning the treatment of homosexuals (up to the death penalty) in Islamic countries.

Why is that?
Because none of us live in those countries. That is a full and complete reason that requires no elaboration.

I've been hit on by more Kuwaiti guys in chat rooms in the last 10 years than there have been documented cases of gays being executed in the entire Islamic world during the same time period.

@ plwhit:

I've lived in an Islamic country for 15 years and I can tell you that there is no shortage of gay men here. It's also the best kept secret known to most people who live here. The only thing is that the government doesn't want it to be "open". A large number of the locals here are for the most part bi-sexual but male partners are a preference. There are 566 hotels in this place and many gay women and men work in them in all positions, as waiters up to being Vice Presidents, and in the corporate environment CEOs, CFOs. There is a huge sales force and you will deal with many gay men in the stores. Gay Filipino men and women can be pretty obvious. Many gay couples holiday here. People know where the bars are. Gay men and women co-mingle in straight bars. Gay people come from every country: Arab, Philippines, western countries, India, to name a few. The only thing lacking here is that gays cannot be open. When you read about arrests it's generally two men in a car caught in the act. Public affection between two people here is frowned upon.

I have a gay friend who has lived here for years and he's never short of companions and has had a few live-in partners. And this should put the cherry on the top for you: he's African-American.

Saudi Arabia has a large population of gay men. They come here on weekends and holidays to party. Liquor is available here. As mentioned above, Kuwaitis like coming here to party as well.

Now I hope that all that info didn't get your knickers in a twist.
