I agree with you; food inflation has been crazy over the last few years. I'm repeating what I said in another post in another thread, but I've been tracking my expenses on a spreadsheet for several years now. I split expenses into categories and having not changed my eating or buying habits at all over the past few years, I spend on average 30% more on food alone than I did 3 years ago. Items such as milk, bread, meat, fruits and vegetables have gone up a lot. This type of inflation needs to be controlled, as it hurts those at the bottom the most as has probably caused much of the in increase in demand for food stamps.

Interstingly, I was in France and the UK last year. Supermarket food seemed a lot cheaper, and a lot healthier.

if (f''(food_price) > 0) // Check 2nd derivative of food price function
// Blame speculators
else
// Make fun of inflation hawks

It seems to me, that so much, especially food has skyrocketed, price-wise. The prices of things seem so out of whack with income levels.

What do my fellow CD'ers think?
No, you're not alone. Prices have gone up, especially meat.

I'm a serial cheapskate. I am also that type-A anal retentive type. I track all of my food costs and can actually look back at the costs and see them rise quite a bit in the last two years. The worst I've seen is meat. If I see a really good deal (quite rare these days), I stock up because it's unlikely I'll see anything near that price again with the current trend.

Food prices are climbing,have been climbing for a good many years.

People will grumble,but people will still pay.

So why would they want to lower prices?

And the US dollar is a shadow of it's former self value wise.

It is Federal Law that we are only allowed to purchase gasoline that is p ethanol .
Ethanol is made from grain and corn .
The price for grain and corn has go up world wide , because we use it as fuel.
Cows eat corn and grain .
Milk comes from cows that cost more to feed .
Milk costs more .

also, here in the USA the price of seed has gone up quite a bit, and the price of fuel also effects the price of crops. the other thing effecting the prices of crops, is supply and demand.
