Obama sounds like he is against coal on the 2008 campaign trail, unless he was in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, or West Virginia. DC isn't a coal area, so I suppose he is against coal now correct?!?!?!
"Obama, who touts his independence from special interests, made a point of embracing the coal industry as part of his quest for statewide office. When he ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, he was flanked by mine workers to proclaim that "there's always going to be a role for coal" in Illinois...."
He is for dirty coal, he is for clean coal, he is for no coal, he is with the coal industry, he wants to phase out the coal industry, he is pandering.
He was very against coal when he ran in 2008. He never even came to KY to campaign at all and I doubt he went to West Virginia either. His ideas on coal made him very unpopular in both states.

But, he did run ads in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania about how coal will always have a roll and be protected by him. He mentions clean coal, which he had been before against....but then he also at the same time was campaigning on the phasing out of coal in other states.
I am getting a headache following Obama's positions on coal.
He has flip flopped so many times on coal I don't know where he stands for 2012. He has been for dirty coal and against it. For clean coal and against it. He has been against emissions limits and for them. During 2008 he was for coal's growth if he was in a coal state, but against it's growth if he was not in a coal state. I am dizzy keeping up with Obama's flip flops on coal. Does anyone know where he currently stands on coal for 2012?

The regulations his administration put on 'clean coal' really hurt the industry here. Our governor, who is a democrat, whent right along with it all, until he ran last time and campaigned on going to Washington to fight for coal...lol. He won though, so enough people in KY were dumb enough to believe it.
I do think some of it has been loosened up, because it seems that coal might be picking back up. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with a lot of what they did with coal years ago in KY other other places. But in the last ten years before Obama, they made great strides in remedying that.
And it depends on the audience he is speaking to as well.
Just like every other politician.
