On Dec. 16, 1773, a bunch of Massachusetts colonists dressed up as fake "Indians", boarded three British ships in Boston Harbor, and dumped most of the tea they were carrying into the harbor, in what later became known as the "Boston Tea Party".

Tea! The devil weed!

Throughout the “jazz age” of 1920s America, pot use increased among jazz musicians and people in show business. Marijuana clubs, called “tea pads,” began springing up in many major American cities. In 1920, the U.S. Department of Agriculture urged American farmers to grow marijuana as a profitable crop. Pot was still legal in most places, but soon, marijuana was lumped together in the minds of the public with serious drugs like heroin and opium and it was placed under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Treasury Department, which in turn created the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (even though most of the drugs under its jurisdiction were not narcotics), headed up by prohibitionist Harry J. Anslinger. The War on Marijuana had begun.

I once worked on a ranch in SW CO for two old sisters who were like 100 yrs old and had pot plants.I sheepishly asked about them and they said they still made tea with them. Seems during WW11 the gov needed hemp for anchor rope and such and even provided them with the seed for the war effort. Patriotic Americans growing pot for Uncle Sam. still a viable crop if it wasnt illegal.I dont smoke it but have an antique wood block&tackle with hemp rope

- because the insidious British had lowered the taxes on tea. That bit always gets left out for some reason.

Or at least given a right good lecture on why taxes are good for them.
