Does this surprise anyone? This guy is such a joke and anyone who blindly signed that pledge is one along with him
"Norquist met with Republican members today to let them know that opposing the extension of the payroll tax cut — which would provide many families an extra $1000 a year — would not amount to supporting a tax increase"
Basic headlline fraud by yeahboy79 and his link. Note the lack of quote marks, absence of which is required to pull off this fraud. Norquist never said what is being attributed to him. Nice job yeahboy79, shoveling your shovel-ready words right into Norquist's mouth. Nice.
The cut in FICA withholding was sold and intended from the beginning as temporary. You do know that Pres. Obama referred to the cut as a 'holiday?' 'Holiday' is a temporary respite. So by definition when the withholding goes back up it is not a 'tax increase.' Hence Norquist's statement.
Of course. Republicans want to increase taxes on the poor and middle class and give it to the rich in the form of defense contract money, agri subsidies, oil subsidies, corporate welfare etc.
Somebody has to pay for all the freebies and low/ no taxes for the rich.
You do realize that the payroll tax cut funds SS and NOT the DOD, or subsidies of any sort? Maybe you don't....
It is just unreal. I really do think that the party might as well write off this election. Even with approval numbers in the toilet Obama is probably going to clean our clock next year because we have too many nitwits and nuts running the party.
No doubt about it; they are gift-wrapping another four years for Obama and will hand it to him next Nov.
I am so sick of this Norquist dude. How the hell does one guy get the whole damn republican party by the family jewels, and how in the hell is that good for America.
GOP claims to be the party of patriots and warriors fighting against Washington insiders and the like. How did they get to be lapdogs for a corporate shill, wetting themselves when he shows disapproval?

When was the last time we raised taxes on anyone after World War II, or before it?
Answer this and you'll get your answer as to why the republicans are so hesitant on raising taxes.
