Does this surprise anyone? This guy is such a joke and anyone who blindly signed that pledge is one along with him

"Norquist met with Republican members today to let them know that opposing the extension of the payroll tax cut — which would provide many families an extra $1000 a year — would not amount to supporting a tax increase"

Of course. Republicans want to increase taxes on the poor and middle class and give it to the rich in the form of defense contract money, agri subsidies, oil subsidies, corporate welfare etc.

Somebody has to pay for all the freebies and low/ no taxes for the rich.

SSI is going broke and has been running in the red and with out the economy improving will continue to do so. And the fix is to cut funding to the program and borrow more money to pay current recipients? Does this plan make sense? In a way I think the leaders know the SSI is insolvent and unsustainable and are letting it wither on the vine. If it is not there in lets say 15 to 20 years they can tell people " hey we gave you the money with tax cuts "

Another aspect that bugs me is some {R}s McConnell/Snowe and others are now claiming that the cuts should be payed for. That is not {R} ideology, they use to say that more money into the economy creates more jobs and thus more revenue for the govt. So maybe our {R} friends can help us out which one is it Tax cuts increase revenue for the govt ? or tax cuts have to be paid for.

It has to be one or the other if it is not then you and your leaders are hypocrites.

Sounds like someone let the MO slip. What these tools are paid to do is protect the money of the rich, who fund them. Working for all Americans, or God forbid, governing for all Americans is the furthest thing from their minds.

It is just unreal. I really do think that the party might as well write off this election. Even with approval numbers in the toilet Obama is probably going to clean our clock next year because we have too many nitwits and nuts running the party.

That's the GOP/tea party way. Bankroll the snot out of the rich on the backs of the working and middle class.
So much for their pledge not to raise taxes

Basic headlline fraud by yeahboy79 and his link. Note the lack of quote marks, absence of which is required to pull off this fraud. Norquist never said what is being attributed to him. Nice job yeahboy79, shoveling your shovel-ready words right into Norquist's mouth. Nice.

The cut in FICA withholding was sold and intended from the beginning as temporary. You do know that Pres. Obama referred to the cut as a 'holiday?' 'Holiday' is a temporary respite. So by definition when the withholding goes back up it is not a 'tax increase.' Hence Norquist's statement.

The Bush tax cuts where sold and intended from the beginning as temporary, too. They had sunset provisions that made them expire at the end of 2010.

True, but Bush never envisioned nor sold them as temporary. They were enacted as temporary because otherwise there were not enough votes to pass them. Bush was clear all along that he wanted them extended or made permanent.
Bush Calls for Permanent Tax Cuts | Fox News

By contrast Obama designed, and sold the FICA cut as temporary. Again that's why he called it a holiday from the start. So this is an apples/oranges comparison.

More info on why the Bush cuts wound up being enacted with sunset provision is here:
