I just found the quote ironic since many liberal posters here think Europeans are the genesis of all that is evil and intolerant in the world.
The six-page, single-spaced letter that Nancy Dondero and about 50 of her relatives received last month was generously salted with legal citations and footnotes. But its meaning was brutally simple. “It is the decision by a majority of the Tribal Council,” the letter said, “that you are hereby disenrolled.”
And with that, Ms. Dondero’s official membership in the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, the cultural identity card she had carried all her life, summarily ended.
“That’s it,” Ms. Dondero, 58, said. “We’re tribeless.”
I heard on the radio that she was the last remaining tribal member who still speaks that tribes language.
The tribe has casino money, has been paying each member $15,000/month, and is thinning their membership. So that remaining members will receive more each month.
Anybody that wants to read the journals of Lewis and Clark will quickly come to some rapid realizations that the American Indian tribes were very diverse in their attitudes, treatment of other tribes, women and so forth.
They were no more noble than the conquering Europeans, just not as well armed.
The most famous Indian in US history, Sacajawea was a slave taken in a raid by one tribe and then later sold by that tribe to a white man whom was by all acounts was worthless bum that Lewis and Clark despised.
One Indian doesn't speak for all natives. I'm sure you can find at least one who disagrees with the nonsense title of this thread.
