Except the First Amendment right for them to call their union whatever they want.

And if they had a religious wedding, there are Free Exercise rights rights involved as well.

Civil unions are only recognized in 8 states. Are marriages only recognized in 8 states?

How is it the same if it is not legal, and even if you had one not recognized, in 42 states?

Roy, can you explain how secular/religious plays into the legal status and contract of being "married"? This issue does not involve any church or religion in any way, as far as I can see.
