NAACP rift reported over whether to support quarterback’s reinstatement.

The case against Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has exposed a split within both the NAACP and the larger African-American community, as some activists condemn Vick’s role in the deaths of fighting dogs and others cast him as a victim of a racist justice system.

Vick, 27, is expected to plead guilty Monday to federal charges in connection with a dogfighting operation on his property in Surry County, Va. He could face up to five years in prison. Two associates of Vick’s who have pleaded guilty to conspiracy said Vick helped executed at least eight underperforming dogs.

Correct it is not a racial thing. It is a abuse/cruelty to animals thing. Anyone that supports what Jamie Foxx (who incidentally I use to like) has said is probably an animal abuser too!

I do not understand why race is always rearing its ugly head. This is definitely not an issue of race - it is an animal abuse case.

I believe that people who are always claiming that race is the reason someone is being convicted is just trying to keep that race down. Making excuses for actions instead of looking at personal responsiblity.

Why is this news? So we (Blacks) are all supposed to think alike? Some white people supported Imus while other white people condemned him. Big freaking deal.

Because its pathetic that people get all up in arms over animal cruelty but are pretty much silent on NOLA, the homeless, poverty, education and anything else that has to deal with America. Its almost as if people respect animals more than humans which is pretty pathetic to say the least. I don't want to hear about justice for dogs when regular folk can't get fair justice. I would love to live where you guys exist. Its sounds peaceful and perfect.....

Why did race raise its ugly head? They had a fool support Vick in Atlanta who is also head of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter. Then the news stories ran that the NAACP supported Vick until the NAACP CEO said it was not so. Sooo.... Then came the stories of the rift. Some folks are just looking for something to criticize the NAACP about.
